Happy Friday!
We are continuing on our “Money Mindset Mission” this month on the inside. Whether you are looking to leap from corporate America to be self employed, or trying to get from self-employed to Business Owner, or you are trying to maximize the power of your money and be an invester – you need to master your money mindset.
Money isn’t evil. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a fairly liberal person yet I’m pro-business. I’m 100% behind anyone who has a great idea and makes billions from it as long as it isn’t at the expense of others and that includes employees.
Money used to scare me, it made me nervous because no one ever taught me how to manage it, use it and leverage it. I had to figure it out along the way – and those lessons happened due to multiple failures that cost me multiple 6-figures.
Show me the MONEY Jerry!
I loved the movie Jerry McGuire – beyond the “You had me at Hello” classic chick flick awwwww – the movie has a lot of great business and personal development lessons.
Have a personal Mission Statement. Know what matters to you – I mean deeply know what matters. You don’t need to write a manifesto like Jerry did – although hell, if the mood strikes you far be it from me to stop you from writing a novel. What you DO need to do is write it down.
Here’s mine:
I will change the lives of a million people through the power of my words, my influence and my teachings – helping them achieve their true potential and ultimately their #lifebydesign.
Everything in that statement I’m incredibly passionate about. It drives me and as it pertains to this discussion on money – it’s how I’m building personal wealth. I’m not going to apologize for that, and neither should you apologize for making money off your gifts.
Surround yourself with the RIGHT people. I know I’ve preached this a gazillion times before – but Jerry walked away from a very lucrative job to follow his “mission” because the people he was working with didn’t align with him anymore. You need to do the same.
If you want to maximize your wealth – you need to surround yourself with people who not only understand wealth but embrace it. Surround yourself with people who say “I can’t afford it” and you’ll be in that boat as well. Your “people” matter a hell of a lot and if you don’t get this part, wealth will probably never happen for you.
Don’t underestimate your value. I just worked with my mentor on this as it pertains to the fees I’m charging for speaking gigs. Frankly, I was too cheap and people weren’t taking me seriously. So now – I’m a minimum 10K for a keynote. No haggling. If you want me, you’ll pay for me.
If you want to master a money mindset you need to first see the VALUE in YOU. People will always pay for what they deem valuable – so learn how to sell YOU. If you want to be an influencer – you need to be confident and unwavering in your beliefs and that #1 belief needs to be in you.
In the movie, Jerry had a ton of curveballs tossed his way. He never gave up on his business dream, but he did forget his “circle” and what more importantly WHO was important. Success is rarely a solo endeavor – it takes a village. Don’t forget it!
Hit reply and let me know where in the journey you are! And…go watch Jerry – it’s such a great flick!
Cheers!
