[ThursdayClub] Hey you Rockstar!
Morning and happy Fri-YAYYYY!!!
This week on the inside we are continuing our journey of Ikigai to ultimately uncover what is our purpose – our 2.0 – our “what’s next”. I can’t WAIT to dive so deep on this in Belize with those of you who’ve made the commitment to really work on YOU – I mean I’m giddy.
On the agenda – uncovering what you are GOOD at.
Now for many of you, this may seem obvious, but trust me – most people don’t see what they are really good at because some person somewhere told them they weren’t.
As with last week’s quest on what we love – this isn’t a 5-minute process of writing in your journal. It’s a deep thinking – grab your journal and go to a quiet place for an afternoon and do some reflecting type work.
Here’s the process:
In your journal – or wherever you are capturing your thoughts – write down:
- Every single thing you feel you are really good at
- Anything and everything that someone else has noted where you excel
- Things you think you may be good at but you are unsure – mainly because of confidence
Now leave it for a day and go back. Are there any cross overs in the columns? Is there anything that you need to add? What about that iffy column – why are you iffy?
The reason we step back and reflect is important.
If you’ve been reading my content for a while, you’ve heard me talk about how your brain will listen to anything you…or someone else…tells it, even if those words are lies.
So, if you’ve told yourself for decades that you are a horrible writer because your grammar is not perfect, when indeed you are a prolific writer – you still won’t see this as something you are great at.
PS this was me. I think I slept through grammar classes – my grammar isn’t great. It doesn’t matter because there are people out there who excel at grammar, if I choose, I can pay them to fix my horrid misplaced semi-colons. As for my emails – these are conversational and, in my mind, grammar doesn’t matter. So don’t email me back telling me about dangling participles and run on sentences – hell I don’t even know what a dangling participle is. The important part of the story is my words impact others, they matter and it’s one of my gifts that I can give back to the world.
So go back to that “iffy” column and soul search. What’s on that list that you are truly, deep in your soul you know, you master? Come on – I know there’s at least one!
Your list can have one thing…it can have a hundred. It’s your list and you are unique. The number doesn’t matter, but the TRUTH does.
Don’t shortchange yourself based upon the opinion of others. You matter.
Love ya!
Happy weekend – and enjoy!
Oh – and if you are interested in applying to be a part of our Belize Group – don’t wait! Grab a spot on my calendar and let’s see if it’s a good fit for you.
